Tamil Nadu, the 11th largest state in India by area. As of 2020, the state has 38 districts, 21 municipal corporations and 138 municipalities.
February 2019, the state government announced in the Assembly that Hosur and Nagercoil will be upgraded to municipal corporation Avadi became municipal corporation June 2019
August 2021 Kumbakonam, Karur, Kanchipuram, Tambaram, Cuddalore and Sivakasi upgraded into city corporation
